Need a Ticket For Your Spigot?
Here in Minnesota in the winter of 2020/21 we had one of the coldest winters we have had in a long time, which means we spent a lot of time on calls to unthaw frozen water pipes. While we were able to prevent further damage to the homes and pipes these hard freezes had some consequences that were not apparent until spring.
This spring/early summer we have had a record number of calls to repair leaky or broken outdoor spigots, and now we have had quite the heat wave resulting in people wanting to water their lawns, gardens, fill up a pool, or even tend to pets. So could anything have been done to prevent this? The answer is yes.
One way to prevent a frozen spigot is to install a frost free spigot. Without going too far into depth these spigots are designed differently to prevent your spigot from freezing. Another safety precaution that you can take is to cover your outdoor spigot during the winter.
Lastly, the best thing you can do to protect your outdoor spigot is to install (or verify that you have) a shut off valve within the interior of your home that is heated, to prevent water from going to the outdoor spigot in the winter months. So if you, like many other homeowners this year, are having any leaking, broken, or damaged spigots please give us a call and we would be happy to get that restored or replaced for you!
